“I paint in all media, on anything and everything I can lay my hands on… Paper, canvas, walls, wellies and even a boring grey BMW, which I painted for the London to Monaco, Gumball Rally.
My favorite subject is portraiture and in recent years I have been commissioned to paint a number of portraits of famous golfers, from times gone by. I have work hanging in the PGA headquarters at the Belfry Golf Club, also the headquarters of the James Braid Society in Brora, Scotland and several have been awarded as prizes in international golf competitions. This year one of my golf portraits was selected for inclusion as the title page illustration, in a book published this year on the history of golf.
Thanks to Edinburgh College of Art, I am an enthusiastic convert to experimental mixed media. I love throwing caution to the wind and experimenting with crazy ways of making marks, being creative just for the sheer fun of it – sticking, splashing, squirting, glueing, dribbling…. And seeing what emerges at the end
I tutor Whalley Art Group, which has evolved into a mixed media, anything goes, often challenging class, where we have lots of fun experimenting and creating new ways to make pictures, in between learning and developing traditional skills. I also run the very successful and popular Whalley Life Group, alongside Pat Ellacott.”
